April 28 @ the Flea

The theme this week was glam!  Lots of feminine, shiny & sparkly bits.  I made major furniture scores and can't wait to re-furbish for a good dose of before & after shots.  For the moment, enjoy yesterday's finds.

Desperately in need of re-upholstering,but the dimensions and scalloped back are magnifique!  And at $30,there is no going wrong.

This was the day for $30 finds!  We've needed a home office desk for some time and this fit the bill.  My husband was so ready for this addition that we just cleaned it up as is and put it into immediate use.  Fortunately, it is already in fairly fine shape; see detail below.  I love the base and all the in tact detail.

Love the base, strong lines

Tabletop edge detail
More sparkle and shine

Now this is a dining set.  I'm curious if its from the 80s -imagine the Nagle print hanging above! - but that is glamtastic from any era.  However, at the stated $2k, a bit high for Alemany wallets.

Lonely stained glass could be upcycled as a colorful garden addition

More Murano

Drawers of yore would hold a nice kitchen herb garden

More next week!

April 21, 2013 @ the Flea

Many things to admire on an utterly gorgeous day at the Alemany Flea.  Very little came home with me, but much could have  . . . .  Themes this week included Victorian furniture in need of much love, pretty floral patterned porcelain and antique books.

These opalescent candle holders made it home with me.

As did this carnival glass; it just glows.  Remember trying to flick coins into glasses at state fairs?

Glow!

Another TST find this week!  This dealer knew what she had, but I gave in at $15.

The front row is part of a Sevres set

Pretty Japanese porcelain

All just perfect for a light spring dinner.  Don't you want to plate some asparagus and strawberries  right now?

Would have loved for the garden

The powder blue matte is lovely

Good bones in a variety of Victoriana, all in need of attention

Liked very much, but the price was steeper than warranted give the dreadful interior

Huge book of SF newspaper from 1914; definite conversation piece

A bible published in 1844 and inscripted in 1869.  There is some history.

Flea Fabulosity

I always notice a trend at each flea.  This week it was wicker purses.  Audrey Hepburn consistently carried charming baskets as bags; to do so now seems both summery and chic.  Nonetheless, I was on the hunt for furniture, decor and garden, so the sweet little bags stayed behind.  This time.

The piece on the right must be from the same manufacturer as the pitcher on the left, a find from last week.  The mark
on the pitcher is very hard to make out, but the dish is clear; its is a Taylor, Smith and Taylor piece, an American manufacturer founded in 1899; this piece is from 1901 - 1930.  It will get its herbs next weekend . . . .

I wasn't looking for jewelry, but this piece found me.  As always I am captivated by beads and shimmer.  Wearing for the
first time at a big meeting in LA tomorrow.  My 9-year old declared it to look very expensive, "at least $75."  Nope.  $4!

Not the greatest photo, but I rescued this vintage wood dresser for $15.  We will DIY-ify it and have it sparkling soon.

There is some lovely detail.

I will bother with sanding the top, but the veneer is too far gone.  A nice coat of paint and something to set on top, mirror
or marble, and it will be gorgeous.

My all star helper.

The trunk essentially came with the dresser, for another $5.  I  have a raised bed thought in mind, but we shall see.

Ding dong!  These bells will be a collection of some kind.  They were horribly dusty and ignored but shined up
beautifully.

Detail

The mirror of the bells is the mirror above.  Wood, old and largely in tact.

This tapestry and surround definitely caught my eye, but alas it was sold.  Certainly 150ish + years old and French.

More collections:  insulators.  Nice lime color.

The shoe forms - with a baby size!

Rustic and timeless for the garden or kitchen.

Probably should have picked up the cases and saddle.  Once I get a display space - the plan [!] - I won't pass up so much!

Delicate and lovely perfume bottles.

Never enough tea cups.  Again, with more space . . . .

Some of those bags!  Love the one on the right.

Definitely should have bought this Seguso piece.  Won't pass up Murano again.
